Archibald, Jeanne S.
Staff member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Ways and Means, Subcommittee on Trade (1975-80).
Associate General Counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative's and Chairman of the Section 301 Committee (1980-86). She conducted litigation and negotiations under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, participated in the negotiation and drafting of the U.S.-Canadian Free Trade Agreement, and provided advice on North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations, and assisted in drafting provisions of the 1988 Trade Act. Served in the U.S. Department of the Treasury as Deputy Assistant General Counsel (1986-88), Deputy Counsel (1988-1990) and General Counsel (1990-93). (2)
As of 2005, she was a partner at the law firm of Hogan & Hartson (since 1993). Her focus was "international trade negotiations and dispute settlement under the World Trade Organization (WTO), North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and other international agreements affecting trade in goods, services, and investment; compliance counseling and enforcement proceedings with respect to economic sanctions and export controls; national security reviews relating to foreign direct investment in the United States; customs and legislative proposals affecting trade; and strategic trade counseling for multinational companies."
