At one time, a Congressional aide in the U.S. House of Representatives. (1)

Later, assistant general counsel and director of global regulatory affairs with Kellogg (1997-98), where he conceived and implemented the company’s global regulatory policies.

Circa 2001 he was a partner at the law firm Keller and Heckman.

As of 2005 he was a partner in the law firm Morgan Lewis, focusing on "national and international food and drug regulation, and issues relating to pharmaceutical, agribusiness, biotechnology and consumer products."

As of 2005 he was a member of the U.S. Department of State's International Economic Policy Task Force on Biotechnology and the Food Industry Codex Coalition. (2)
