Was Deputy Director General for Research at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico for 10 years.
Has served as consultant to the Canadian Bilateral Aid Agency, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), United Nations Development Program, World Bank, and Hitachi, McKnight and Rockefeller Foundations. (1)
As of 2005 was chair of the board of directors of International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), a not-for-profit organization established to transfer agricultural biotechnology to the developing world. (2)
